Web controlling tools for free (Part 4) - onestat.com

Posted in: metrics

Hi all,

todays post is dedicated to OneStat free hit counter - Summary below - check out the detailed information in a comparison matrix with additional links here: free web analytics tool comparison

OneStat free hit counter

The privately held company behind this web analytics tool is called onestat.com, located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Apart from the free web hit counter it offers various paid versions (e.g. Pro, Premium, ebusiness) geared towards different-sized websites as well as different services (advertising and ecommerce).

Featurewise OneStat free hit counter measures up to ShinyStat Free - despite only offering detailed data on the last 20 visitors (not on the last 100) it counts an unlimited number of PVs, features a prognosis tool for PVs and Visits. However we have not been able to find any option for search term analysis which ShinyStat Free offers. However it does neither offer campaign tracking, the possibility to enter specific goals to track. OneStat free hit counter offers extensive visitor details such as length of visit - there is the option to export the reports and also to view the data in charts.

OneStat free hit counter offers FAQ (very limited though) as well as a demo version of the available reporting, but do not count on detailed answers…

As far as privacy policy goes OneStat emphasizes its striving to protect the individual privacy and to only use individuals data if the respective users consents to that use. However aggregate data gained from offering the counter can be used to improve offerings and services is also allowed to pass this information to third parties. The privacy statement is relatively easily accessible through the footer of the page and is written in a way that the user is not mislead - however despite first good appearence it is - as always - advisable to check the privacy policy thoroughly before rendering any data.

Also it is advisable to check for how long OneStat holds the data once tracked - we have not found this clearly specified anywhere.

Last but not least a note from the editor: Despite having thoroughly checked the info given on the respective company websites and from other sources there is always the possibility of mistakes and/or errors. If you come across something that is not represented in the right manner or needs updating please let me know and I will get on it asap. Also the content given represents personal opinion and is in no way related to professional background or current employment.
