Web controlling tools for free (Part 5) - eWebCounter
Published October 22nd, 2007 in metrics.Hi all,
todays post is dedicated to eWebCounter - Summary below - check out the detailed information in a comparison matrix with additional links here: free web analytics tool comparison
eWebCounter
No idea who is behind this site, to be frank - we could neither find anything on the site itself nor when busying our favourite search engines. When trying the latter, however, one gets a pretty good overview of sites who run eWebCounter since the tracking code is crawled and shows up in the search results with the respective URL. Apart from the free product one can upgrade to a paid service.
eWebCounter pays the bills by putting ads on the sites but what stroke us as odd is the links section on the homepage that is not marked as sponsored but seems to contain sponsored listings (like, for example, “ceramic heaters”)…well, well, well.
Featurewise eWebCounter offers some pretty neat things like, for example, data downloads as csv, keyword clouds for referral tracking and entry and exit sites of visitors. Also the visitor information is not limited to a meagre 20 visitors like with onestat. The coolest feature we have seen yet is the possibility to track visitors paths through the site - this one really has potential to help you optimize the site and not be stuck with brooding over page impressions…
eWebCounter offers FAQ which we found pretty usable as well as a demo version of the available reporting. Furthermore there is the option to contact (whoever) for more specific questions or issues not covered in the FAQ-section.
As far as privacy policy goes eWebCounter (like all the others) make use of the data collected in aggregate form. The data can be used to improve offerings and services as well as to be passed on to third parties. The privacy statement is relatively easily accessible through the footer of the page and is written in a way that the user is not mislead - however despite first good appearence it is - as always - advisable to check the privacy policy thoroughly before rendering any data.
Even though it is not specified anywhere in particular we took from the demo report that eWebCounter holds the data for at least one year since they give you past years data to compare.
Last but not least a note from the editor: Despite having thoroughly checked the info given on the respective company websites and from other sources there is always the possibility of mistakes and/or errors. If you come across something that is not represented in the right manner or needs updating please let me know and I will get on it asap.
